THE CHALLENGE In Detroit, many students are not equipped for success upon graduating high school… • Only 61% of Detroit students enroll in a 2-4 year college within one year of graduation. • Of these, just 16% complete their degree within 6 years. And completing college is not always enough… • Across the country, just 53% of college graduates students believe they’re ready to apply their skills and knowledge in the workforce; • Only 23% of employers agree. PARTNERING TO ADVANCE PATHWAYS United Way is serving as a backbone connector across citywide efforts to improve education attainment and workforce readiness so as to drive a talent-rich city. • Connecting to system-level work is helping to meet the scale of demand for student opportunities. • Grow Detroit’s Young Talent • Detroit Promise – Detroit Promise Path Program, 4 year pilot (“Score Four”) • Citywide efforts that previously operated in silos are using the Pathways to help build connectivity and alignment, in an effort to drive improved outcomes. • Connecting summer employment to students’ year-round development • Building stronger pathways to community and 4-year college completion UNITED WAY FOR SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN UNITED WAY FOR SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN
