  2. Introduction • These cards are designed to be used as mental and oral starters at Key Stages 2 to 4 • Ideally they should be laminated with the sample key questions on the back • Please add key questions of your own and adapt the cards to reflect the ability of your students

  3. SSM1

  4. SSM1 SAMPLE KEY QUESTIONS SUPPORT CORE EXTENSION • If each side of this square is 2cm long, what is its perimeter? • If the perimeter is 12cm how long are the sides? How about 16cm, 20cm … • If each side of the square is 4cm long what is the area of the square< If the perimeter is 49 cm what is the area? … If the area = 9cm what is the perimeter? … If the area of ½ the square is 8cm what is its perimeter? … If the area of the square is a2 what is the perimeter? .. Join two of these squares together to form a rectangle – find the area and perimeter of this new shape ….

  5. SSM2

  6. SSM2 SAMPLE KEY QUESTIONS SUPPORT CORE EXTENSION • If the length of the rectangle is twice the width, and the length is 2cm, what is the perimeter?.... • If the perimeter is If the perimeter is 49 cm what is the area? … If the area = 9cm what is the perimeter? … If the area of ½ the square is 8cm what is its perimeter? … If the area of the square is a2 what is the perimeter? .. Join two of these squares together to form a rectangle – find the area and perimeter of this new shape ….

  7. SSM3 B A ( 0 , 0 ) C

  8. SSM3 SAMPLE KEY QUESTIONS SUPPORT CORE EXTENSION • Each side of this square is 2 units long. What are the coordinates of point A, B …… • If each side is now 3 units long, what are the coordinates of A, B ….. • …….. • If the perimeter is 12 units what are the coordinates of A , B ... • If the area of the square is 25 square units …. • If the square has side 6 units find the coordinates of the centre of the square. • If the perimeter is 8 units find the coordinates of the centre of the square • If the area ……

  9. SSM4 B A ( 0 , 0 ) C

  10. SSM4 SAMPLE KEY QUESTIONS SUPPORT CORE EXTENSION .Each side of the square is 2 units long. If I move the square 2 units to the right, what are the new coordinates of points A , B …. The square is moved up two units ….. • If the square has side 2 units and is reflected in the x axis what are the new coordinates of point A, B …… • The square is reflected in the y axis …… • If the square has side 6 units find the coordinates of the centre of the square. • If the perimeter is 8 units find the coordinates of the centre of the square • If the area …… • If the square is rotated clockwise …

  11. SSM5

  12. SSM5 SAMPLE KEY QUESTIONS SUPPORT CORE EXTENSION • . The radius is 2cm what is the diameter? • R = 3cm, 1.5cm …. • The diameter is 12cm, what is the radius? • D = 15cm, 4.2cm .. • If the radius is 2cm and π is approximately 3, what is the circumference of the circle? Area ? • If the diameter …. • If the radius is 2.5 and π is approximately 3, what is the circumference ….area ….

  13. SSM6

  14. SSM6 SAMPLE KEY QUESTIONS SUPPORT CORE EXTENSION . B is the point showing the middle of the line. If the coordinates of point A are (4,4) what are the coordinates of point B? …A is the point (6,6) … ….B is the point (4,4) …… • B is the mid-point of the line. If A = (4,2) what are the coordinates of point B? • …A=(12,1) ….. • ….B=(3,1) …. • If this line is the hypotenuse of a right angle triangle and B is the mid-point of this line, find the coordinates of the vertices of the triangle if B = ( 2,2) • Find the area …..

  15. SSM7

  16. SSM7 SAMPLE KEY QUESTIONS SUPPORT CORE EXTENSION . • The point(0,0) is the mid-point of the line. If A = (4,4)) what are the coordinates of point B? • …A=(12,1) ….. • ….B=(-3,-1) …. • If this line is the hypotenuse of a right angle triangle , find the coordinates of the vertices of the triangle if B = ( -2,-2) • Find the area …..

  17. SSM8

  18. SSM8 SAMPLE KEY QUESTIONS SUPPORT CORE EXTENSION . • A is the mid-point of the line. If A = (-4,-4)) what are the coordinates of point B? • …A=(-2,-1) ….. • ….B=(-3,-1) …. • If this line is the hypotenuse of a right angle triangle , find the coordinates of the vertices of the triangle if = ( -2,-1) • Find the area …..
