Transformational Graphing Lucky Lesson 13 – This is the Mini-Theme TEST NEXT CLASS!
Follow up on the Warm Up • What is the domain and range for each graph • What are the intervals of increase and decrease for each graph
What is the fear of the number 13 called? • First try and spell it correctly….. • Triskaidekaphobia
What is transformational graphing? • Let’s look at the graph • When graphed there are 3 key points, the vertex, and one point on each side: • Vertex (0,0), (1,1), (-1,1) • If we graphed each key point would shift left 3 spaces or subtract 3 from each x-value. • Vertex (-3,0), (-2, 1), (-4, 1) • If we graphed each key point would then shift down 1 space or subtract 1 from each y-value. • Vertex: (-3,-1), (-2,0), (-4, 0)
Dan Marino • This Hall of Fame NFL QB wore the number 13 • He played at the University of Pittsburgh and the Miami Dolphins • Passed for over 5000 yards and 48 touchdowns in 1984.
Transformational Graphing • These same principles apply to both the absolute value and cubic graphs: • Centered about (h,k) • It still applies to the cubic function even though it does not have a vertex.
