Student Day - Morning • 8:45 – 9:00 – Unpack, Daily Edit • 9:00 – Broadcast • 9:00 – 9:20: Morning Meeting • 9:05 – 11:00 Language Arts • Reading – minilesson, demonstration, independent practice, small group work, conferring • Writing – conferencing, mini-lessons, sharing, Writer’s Notebook, short- and long-term writing pieces
Student Day - Afternoon • 11:00 – 12:00 – Math • 12:00 – 12:20 – Recess • 12:20 – 12:45 – Lunch 12:50– 1:40 – Special
Student Day – Afternoon (cont’d) • 1:35 – 2:25 – C/E time • Band, orchestra, reading, speech/lang., AGP • Unfinished work • Extra help • Centers activities – KidBiz, word games, writing conferences • 2:25 – 3:20 – SS/Science/Seminar - important transition time - switches every 6-8 weeks
Seminar • Links with CCSS • Focus on how to read, research, and synthesize information from non-fiction texts • One of the three rotations with science and social studies • Linked with science and social studies curriculum • Syllabus located on my website
Homework Weekly: • CompassLearning (checked every Monday) • KidBiz3000 (2 articles, 88% or higher; checked every Monday) • TypingPal (checked every Monday) • 14 Steps of 100 Book Challenge per week (checked every Friday) Nightly: Math, unfinished work from the day, long-term projects like Book Reports
Homework Policy • Missed Assignments • Missing morning meeting • Contact home if it becomes a habit (more than 2 missed assignments • Circle Journal • Assignment book • Weekly student reflection • Parent responses: questions, concerns, comments
Book Reports • Based on a genre or specific book characteristic (Newbery Award winners, etc.) • At least one written component (summary, book review, etc.) with project • Assigned 4 times during the year • Can be turned in early • One grade level off for each day late
