How many people are obese? - more than one third of the adults in the U.S are obese (that’s more than 71 million people) (“Obesity”, Gale Databases) - Slightly more women than men are obese in all adult age groups--35.3% of women and 33.3% of men (“Obesity”, Gale Databases)
What can result from obesity? - joint problems, digestive disorders, poor physical fitness, heart disease, unexplained heart attacks
Obesity can also result in... - arthritis, heartburn, gum disease, high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, emotional and social difficulties, and more.
How to prevent obesity The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that youth professionals: • Serve fruits and vegetables and other nutritional foods for snacks • Be role models by eating healthy foods around children • Make water convenient to you daily • Limit TV and computer time for children • Encourage children to be physically active all day, every day
