  5. Introduction to the Spring ELPA and ELPA Initial Screening • How is the administration of the ELPA Initial Screening different from the Spring ELPA? • Spring ELPA • Available annually from mid-March through April; longer assessment length requires multiple days of administration; scored by contractors; all materials must be returned; identifies ELLs potentially ready for exit from services.

  11. Key Fall Spring ELPA Activities • Reviewing 2011 results and next steps • All sites that tested last year should have their paper reports now; electronic reports are available online. • 2012 ELPA Calendar • Print and distribute the 2012 calendar to coordinators and ELL staff

  12. Key Fall Spring ELPA Activities • Insuring that your students have the proper status in MSDS: FLEP/LEP, codes, and dates • All students who are new and previously identified ELLs need to have their status checked each fall • Students who are not properly exited by the count date are required to be assessed during the spring.

  13. Key Fall Spring ELPA Activities • Requesting exemptions for students with 504 or IEP plans • Although the exemption system will not open in the Secure Site until later this year, coordinators should gather the 504/IEP plans for students who may require an exemption or accommodation during the spring.

  14. Key Fall Spring ELPA Activities • Updating your district/school contact information in EEM • The key to remaining in contact with our office and up-to-date on assessment information is to ensure that your ELPA coordinator(s) information is correct in EEM www.michigan.gov/EEM

  15. On the Horizon • Tested roster and your student’s demographic information • By the time the Tested Roster opens in the spring it will be too late to update your student demographic information within MSDS. • Please review and correct student demographic information before it’s too late.

  16. On the Horizon • Data systems that help you understand your results • There are a number of school data systems on the market that can help you interpret your student results. Contact your ISD and/or district offices to see if they already have access to such a system.

  17. On the Horizon • Is your school ready for the ELPA Online? • The ELPA assessment piloted the assessment online statewide in 2011. • Positive results from the pilot have encouraged us to move forward with the system, so let us know if you are interested in participating.

  18. On the Horizon • Is your school ready for the ELPA Online? • *Available to students in grades 3-12. Availability and criteria for participation in the ELPA Online is subject to change. (August 2011)

  19. On the Horizon • PreID • The ELPA PreID window is open December 5, 2011 through January 13, 2012. • Use this window to register students who will participate in the Spring assessment and have the ELPA contractor generate student barcode labels instead of your school.
