1. IP LLP Erasmus “Social work and voluntary activities. H.E.L.P” ”06.05. – 18.05.2012, Presov My experience with volunteering Made by Ieva Purkinaitė Lithuania

2. About me : • My name is Ieva Purkinaitė • I am from Lithuania • I‘m 21 year old III grade, social work student from Mykolas Romeris university.

3. My hobbies I do not have many hobbies but I like some activities: • Driving with bicycle; • Singing and dancing (now I attend folklore ensemble); • I love animals and activities with them; • Watch films (true – life films, thrillers, melodramas); • To discuss about life topics which is interesting to me; • To meet with friends and go to walk; • Cross – stitch; • Fishing; • To read psychological literature;

4. My experience with volunteering and voluntary organizations • I have experience with volunteering when I was in SOS Children’s village; • In this organization I work with orphan child from Chechnya; • I work with six child: one boy, five girls and their SOS mother;

5. In this institution I: • Communicated with child and their SOS mother • Helped them to prepare their homework • Played games with them (painting, singing, sports games…) • Traveled with them in the field • Tided home and the yard with them • Talked with them about their problems and possible solutions.

6. Volunteering give me: • More knowledge about child and their problems • How need to talk with these child and help them • More knowledge about institution and their activities • I saw what is SOS mother and what she does • I spend good time with child • I meet new people and make new friends • Give me new skills • I get more patient and self - confidence

7. My experience about client into crisis • My volunteering exactly was with orphan child who have been into crisis situation; I knew that these child have many problems. Some of them are: stress, they have lived in conflicted families and suffered violence before their come into SOS village. Now they do not their family, but they live in Lithuania with SOS mother and know Lithuanian language. They have cultural problems, because they come from Chechnya. Other problems are: they do not have good social skills, they have emotional and psychological problems (depression, fear, avoidance, some of child have aggression symptoms)

8. I choose topic group about voluntary work with client into crisis because of I think that this group of clients is very interesting and has wide spectrum problems. I know many people who are into crisis and have difficulties. So I want to deepen one’s knowledge about this client group.

9. I think that voluntary is good, but not very popular phenomenon in Lithuania yet. Some organizations have volunteers but some do not have and do not want to have volunteers. However, voluntary work is good for people who need to help besides it is help for no financial payment. Voluntary can get more experience, meet new people, get friends, to spend time in good ways.

10. I decide to participate in this project, because: • This project look very interesting for me; • I think well of volunteering and its benefits; • I want to try my strength; • I want to try to work with new group in other country; • I have never been in abroad before; • I want to improve my English language skills; • I want to get more self – confidence and to have good time.
