How I was introduced to Buddhism • Imagine that you are on the edge of a cliff that is 100 feet tall • You look over the edge of the cliff and you see hundreds of jagged, sharp and pointy rocks at the bottom • Now imagine that someone has pushed you over the cliff and you are falling to your certain the death

  3. The question becomes • Would you take pleasure in the fall knowing that you are going to die…… • If the answer is no, than why would you take pleasure in life??????

  13. Four Noble Truths • There is suffering in the world. To live is to suffer. (Dukkha) • The Buddha found this out when he was young and experienced suffering and death in others.

  14. Four Noble Truths The cause of suffering is self-centered desire and attachments.

  15. Four Noble Truths The solution is to eliminate desire and attachments.

  16. Four Noble Truths To reach nirvana, one must follow the Eightfold Path.

  17. 1. Reincarnation • concept that one must go through many cycles of birth, living, and death • After many such cycles, if a person releases their attachment to desire and the self, they can attain Nirvana  - a state of liberation and freedom from suffering
