  2. El Presente Progresivo pasado hoy futuro The present progressive describes an action that is in process at the moment we are talking. ¡ahora mismo! Right now in progress!

  3. El Pres. Indicativo vs. El Pres. Progresivo The present indicative is a generalized statement in the present. ie...Amy is eating a sandwich for lunch today. The present progressive describes an action that is in process at the moment we are talking. ie...Amy is eating a sandwich right now.

  4. estoy estamos estás está están + ¿Cómo lo formamos? • Compound verb form • 2 parts (must have both parts!) • Present tense forms of ESTAR + • Present Participle of the main verb (ing form) -ar = -ando -er/-ir = -iendo

  7. Participios irregulares… The first type of irregularity is forming pres. participles from stem changing verbs. If there is a two letter stem change just use the first of the two letters. • pidiendo • diciendo • durmiendo • Pedir (e-i) • Decir (e-i) • Dormir (o-ue)

  8. Participios irregulares… The second type of irregularity is forming pres. participles from ER and IR verbs whose stem end in a vowel. Then the “i” of iendo changes to a “y”. • leyendo • trayendo • oyendo • Leer • Traer • Oír

  9. El Presente Progresivo + ESTAR -ando or -iendo In English you would never say: “He walking.” or “She working.” You say: He’s walking.orHe is walking. She’s working.orShe is working. We do the same in Spanish: Never leave out the verb ESTAR

  12. Por ejemplo… Unas oraciones usando el presente progresivo: Right now Juan, Andrés, Alicia, Pedro and I are doing something… ESTAR+Participio presente • Juan estáescribiendo la carta. • Andrés y Alicia estáncomiendo un burrito. • Pedro y yo estamosjugando a las cartas.

Más ejemplos…: It is always necessary to use the verb estar and the participle (–ando / –iendo) of the main (action) verb • Amanda y su bebé estándurmiendo. • Amalia estálavando los platos. • ¿Vosotros estáisestudiando? • Tú estáspensando mucho en este examen. • Mis amigos están llamando por teléfono. • ¿Quién está hablando en clase?
