  2. CONTEXTUAL USE • Daniel : Can you open the door? • Clark : Sorry, I’m havinga shave right now. • Ally : What’s that noise upstairs? • John : It’s Claira. She’s practicing for her music class. • Ally : Oh, is she taking a music class this semester? • John :Yeah, and she’s really good at singing.

  3. CONTEXTUAL USE • For actions occuring at the moment of speaking • You are eating too fast. • I am teaching English right now. Time Prepositions: now, right now, at the moment, at present

  4. CONTEXTUAL USE • For temporary situations existing for a period at the present time • She’s working very hard nowadays. Time Prepositions: nowadays, these days, this term, this year, this month, this semester

  5. CONTEXTUAL USE • For situations which are changing during the present time. • Everything is expensive. • Everything is getting more and more expensive. • The weather is hot. • The weather ‘s getting hotter and hotter.

  6. CONTEXTUAL USE • For events that you have planned to do in the future • I am meeting her next Sunday. • She is leaving Istanbul in two days. Time Prepositions: tomorrow, next week, next year, next summer

  7. CONTEXTUAL USE • To express annoying habits with words like always • You’re always borrowing money ! • You’re always using my toothbrush ! • You’re always talking too much !

  8. Present Simple vs. Present Progressive • Father is in his room. He is resting now. • Father always rests in his room at noon. • I have university entrance exam this year. That’s why I am not playing voleyball this year. • I usually play voleyball at the weekend. I don’t play on weekdays.

  9. FORM • AFFIRMATIVE (+) • I am writing now. • You are reading a book. • He/She/It is eating lunch. • We are listening to music. • You are working hard. • They are discussing their financial problems.

  10. FORM • NEGATIVE (-) • I am not writing now. • You are not reading a book. • He/She/It is not eating lunch. • We are not listening to music. • You are not working hard. • They are not discussing their financial problems.

  11. FORM • INTERROGATIVE (?) • Am I writing now? • Are you reading a book? • Is he/she/it eating lunch? • Are we listening to music? • Are you working hard? • Are they discussing their financial problems?
