Polycom IP Phones • Polycom phones are the preferred device for use with a SIP deployment of IC. There are three ways to configure the Polycom phones: • Configuration files (Preferred) • Web interface (should be disabled) • From the menus on the phone (requires most manual work)
Polycom IP Phones • Features include: • Auto Answer (Zone Paging) • Call Park (Orbit) and Pickup • Shared Line Appearances • Multiple Line Appearances • 430 – 2 line appearances • 500 series – 3 line appearances • 600 series – 6 line appearances
Installing Polycom Phones • Requirements for installation • Phones on-site, on the network • MAC addresses (serial numbers) for all phones • AC adapters or PoE-capable switch • Most recently tested and validated firmware / bootrom (obtained from Interactive Intelligence). • TFTP server (available on EIC server) for configuration files • IP Phone Configurator utility • Creates / generates configuration files • Creates / generates .csv file for stations (used in IA) • Stations created in Interaction Administrator • Names / Extensions / SIP addresses / (.csv format)
IP Phone Configurator • Tool available on the Interactive Intelligence Support site • Designed to decrease workload involved in deploying Polycom phones • Creates Site-specific settings / SIP settings for phones • Creates the files needed for full configuration • Eliminates need for manual editing of configuration files • Switchover EIC servers • SNTP server • Apply station names / extensions / SIP addresses needed for registration
IP Phone Configurator • IP Phone Configurator also places generated files into the EIC server’s TFTP Root • \I3\IC\TFTPRoot\ • Publishing configuration files generates the following: • (mac).cfg • (name)-(mac).cfg • xIC.cfg • The following files are taken from the firmware pack: • phone1.cfg • sip.cfg
Configuration files • Global Settings: • xIC.cfg – editable, contains global site settings • Sip.cfg – should not be edited. • Local Settings: • <mac>.cfg – pointer file for configuration files. Each phone must be told all the configuration files it needs to load. • <name><mac>.cfg – phone-specific settings, including SIP registration address, IP address of SIP registrar/proxy.
Configuration Files • Phones need to find this TFTP root to load configuration files. • Manually set each phone through Menu settings • When the phone is first powered on, push the Setup key. • Enter 456 for the default password. • Use the arrow keys to navigate to the ServerMenu. • Change Server Type to Trivial FTP • Change server IP to the IC server (or other TFTP server) IP address • Save changes and let the phone boot up • OR, configure DHCP Option 66 to provide the IP address of the TFTP server
TFTP Server Installation • ININ TFTP server runs as a Windows service • Can be accessed via a web interface • http://<IPaddress>:8086 • ININ TFTP Server can be installed on standalone machine on the network. • This avoids pulling configuration files across WAN connections.
Steps to complete manual installation of TFTP server: • Create directory and subdirectories for files: • C:\ININTFTP – store the TFTP binary files. • C:\ININTFTP\TFTPROOT - Virtual root which TFTP Server serves from. • C:\ININTFTP\TFTPROOT\LOGS - Place for Polycom phones to upload their logs.
Steps to complete manual installation of TFTP server: • Copy files from IC server with embedded TFTP server (I3\IC\Server directory) • ++ Files are for xIC 3.0 only • ** File is found in \Windows\System32
