Laszlo Nussbaum • His family had two sides opposite as from his paternal grandparent and maternal grandparent • He was raised with the religious point of view from his mother and his father did not pray at all
Country • The country while he was living was in the time of The World War I and II, that was the time Hitler came to power • The photo was taken in Turda in 1930s. His ma- ternal grandparents’ house was in the middle of the main square. This is what the house looked like
Political • It was during the war that Laszlo’s grandfather sent his three boys to the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy to protect the nation • He bought lots of war bonds but lost in the end
Political • Hitler came to power at this time and Laszlo’s grandfather died so the whole family had a difficult time during the war • During the Holocaust, he was sent to concentration camp in Auschwitz (today Poland) and he survived the Holocaust
Religion • In his father’s side of the family, they came from Austro-Hungarian Jewish family so they had no knowledge of religion • His father didn’t practice any religious, he didn’t pray at all
Religion • Laszlo’s grandfather on his mother’s side was, in fact, a very religious man • He was an Orthodox Jew and he knew that one’s prayers is the most important manifestation • In the family, religious from the point of view that his mother lit candles on Sabbath
Economy • During the World War II, the country developed market economy with oil production throughout the world • They also had some small shops to sell hats, clothes, and fashionable items • A textile factory also operated there near his grandfather’s house • There were workers but only a few
Popular Books • In those times of Jewish publication were edited both in Hungarian and Romanian • That was not a religious book but one of political, Zionist character
Education • His grandfather sent his four sons to different places throughout Europe to go to universities • Laszlo went to Paris for philosophy; his father, Jeno, went to Venice for mathematics; Jozsef moved to Berlin to become a doctor; Sandor studied economics in Prague • He studied to become a newspaper writer
