TWU Student Learning Outcomes • Developed by faculty and student life • Approved by Senate • Grounded in Christian Liberal Arts Tradition • High level or “global” • Intended to have an impact on overall program development rather than on individual courses (but can be revelatory for courses as well) • TWU Student Learning Outcomes
Mapping TWU Student Learning Outcomes with Programs • Mapping process will identify program strengths, challenges and opportunities in relation to the TWU Student Learning Outcomes • Mapping process leads naturally to program revision and/or renewal • Use multiple mapping lenses – chosen lenses will vary from program to program in their usefulness • Should make “natural and significant” connections. Stretch your thinking, but don’t force a connection to each category • Stay big picture as much as possible • Program maps will vary significantly depending on type, discipline etc.
Discoveries about TWU Student Learning Outcomes • Can’t use the broad categories alone for mapping • Have the detailed descriptions available when considering connections. • Christian integration is not limited to the Spiritual Formation Category • Cognitive Complexity explicitly • All categories have potential for Christian integration • Absence of “aesthetics” in the TWU Student Learning Outcomes (appreciation of beauty, design, form, artistic expression)
