There are 3 main types of blood vessels. • Arteries (largest)- carry blood away from the heart. • Capillaries (tiny)- so tiny only one cells can pass through them at a time. • These join together to form… • Veins (large)- carry blood back to the heart.
The liquid part of the blood is called plasma. • It makes up over half of the blood. • The rest of the blood is made up of different kinds of solid particles. • Red blood cells- carry oxygen and carbon dioxide in the body • White blood cells- help attack germs and fight diseases • Platelets- help the blood to form clots that seal injuries.
