  8. After hard work and a lot of fun, students come away with a greater appreciation of science and technology and how they might use it to positively impact the world around them. In addition, they cultivate life skills such as brainstorming, planning, collaboration and teamwork, as well as research, presentation and technical skills.

  10. Team: • 2 to 6 participants • ages 6 -9 • 1 or more coaches

  11. Forming a Team: • People you already know or • Visit the FIRST Team Up website to find teammates or teams https://my.usfirst.org/FIRSTPortal/login/fc_Login.aspx • make a free confidential login • find others interested in forming a team • search for mentors

  12. Season Overview and Deadlines: The season runs from August 1 through April • August 1 • Jr. FLL Research Challenge Released • August 1 - early December • Teams work on project • December • Teams choose an expo • event and attend

  13. When are Jr. FLL events? We anticipate having a few choices of events your team can attend. Events will occur in early December at FLL qualifiers. Please check http://southdakotarobotics.com for dates in the coming months.

  14. How often are meetings? • Do whatever works best for your team and your coaches.

  15. COST of a first-year TEAM: $300-$475 • National team registration - goes to FIRST $50 • Regional Tournament Fee “supports SDRA $30 • Poster supplies - $20 • Jr.FLL Base Kit - $182.95 • optional - Jr.FLL Robotics Kit - $175.95 • COST of a second-year TEAM: $100-$275 • National team registration - goes to FIRST $50 • Regional Tournament Fee “supports SDRA $30 • Poster supplies - $20 • optional - Jr.FLL Robotics Kit - $175.95 Teams may split the costs between team members, fundraise, or find sponsors to cover these costs.

  16. Coach Training • Kids do the work • SDRA offers New Coach Training Classes • Other optional coaches training • You are not alone!

  17. Student Training • Jr. FLL is about hands on learning and exploration. • SDRA holds year round classes and camps for kids who want more instruction.
