2. The sweet intro…. • “HIV”= (human immunodeficiency virus) • HIV- is a virus that attacks and weakens the human immune system!!!!!!! • AIDS is a retrovirus • RETROVIRUS- an RNA virus, a virus composed not of DNA but RNA

4. Where did we find AIDS???????? • AIDS was first discovered in central Africa in the year 1981. • 36 million people die every year from AIDS. • It is now all over the globe. • AIDS is now prevalent

6. How does AIDS work?????? • AIDS primarily affects a persons immune system. • AIDS works in a cycle (This diagram shows this…….)

8. How is HIV transmitted???? • HIV is not transmitted like a cold it is actually rather hard for someone to contract AIDS. • The HIV virus is only found in bodily fluids such as: semen, blood, vaginal fluids, and breast milk.

10. How do we know if we have AIDS??????????? • There are ten main symptoms: • Extreme weakness or fatigue • Rapid and significant weight loss (an average of 10% of total weight in one month • Frequent fevers that last for weaks • Heavy night sweats • Swollen lymph glands

11. Symptoms continued……. • Skin rashes • Genital or anal sores • White spots in mouth • Diarrhea that won’t go away • Persistent cough • Repeated vaginal yeast infections in women
