Getting Started You will need three pieces of information to log in to PowerTeacher: • The URL: https://sis.walkerschools.org/teachers • Your username: first initial last name (ex. bwelch) • Your password: firstdayonly
ABOUT PASSWORDS • When you login to PowerTeacher the first time, you will use the information from the previous slide. You will then be prompted to change your password • Old password will be firstdayonly • New password: length of 10, upper case, lower case, special character (!,$, etc)

STUDENT ALERT ICONS The “Backpack” allows you to view other student pages. One of the pages, “Quick Lookup”, may have a series of “alerts.” Clicking on these will open a pop-up window with the necessary information.

THE GRADEBOOK INTERFACE ID Bar Menu Bar Class Panes *Scoresheet - displays the assignments and scores you have entered for the students. Groups *Assignments - displays the details of the assignments you have created. *Students - contains demographic data for each of your students Add/delete Student Groups *Grade Setup - displays the final grade setup for each term. *Class Content - contains the basic information about the selected course. *Reports - provides an easy-to-use interface through which you can designate how you want a report to run. NOTE: The Scoresheet window can be filtered by Term (which also includes the current week, the next week, etc…), Category, or Students (active or dropped)
Categories • What are categories? • Categories are different types of assignments. • Are there any categories in PowerTeacher? • PowerTeacher gradebook comes with four default categories: Homework, Project, Quiz, and Test. • You may create more categories. • Categories can be set to different colors • for your viewing/sorting.
Go to Tools, Categories 100 Use these buttons to add or delete categories SETTING UP CATEGORIES Once your categories are set up, they are available to all of the classes you teach.
ADDING A NEW CATEGORY NOTE: You can also use categories for tracking non-graded assignments, such as field trip permission forms, etc… You will have the ability to filter the category out of any reports you run. If you choose to do this, make sure you leave “Include in Final Grade” unchecked. *Enter a Name for the category *EnteranAbbreviation *ChooseaColorfrom the dropdown list 100 *EnterthePoints Possible (this will be the default point value of any assignments in this category) Score Types Mixed, Points, Percentages, Letter *Choose a Score Type from the drop-down list *Check Include in Final Grade if appropriate *Enter a description Click the Close button when you are finished working with categories.
FINAL GRADE SETUP There are three options for grade setup: Total Points: points earned points possible Term Weights: total points weight of term Category Weights: total points weight of each category Click “Grade Set-up” Tab Click Calculations Tab YOU MUST SET UP EACH CLASS!!!

Student Groups • Why use student groups ? • You could give the same assignment to the whole class, or give different assignments or due dates to different groups of students. • Groups can be used to keep track of students with behavioral issues. • A band teacher could group students by the instrument they play. • Multi-grade classroom teachers could group students by grade-level.

ASSIGNMENTS *Enter a name for the assignment and choose the category (i.e. Homework, Participation, lab). Set a due date and determine whether you wish to accept the default values for score type and points (ask your school. Choose whether to include the assignment in the final grade. Enter a brief description. *Click Save. *Click on Publish tab and select your preferences for publishing assignment and grades. Publishing assignments and grades will make them available to parents through the parent portal of PowerSchool. *Click Save in the lower right corner to save the assignment. The assignment will appear in the Scoresheet. Repeat the steps for each assignment. *After you create an assignment in the Assignment tab, it is displayed on the Scoresheet. Scores will be recorded on the Scoresheet page.
Entering Scores Click in the cell representing the intersection of the row containing a student’s name and the column of the assignment you want to score. Then, enter the score. Press “Enter” to advance to the next student, or “Tab” to advance to the next assignment. Click the “Scoresheet” Tab No Scores over 100!! Don’t’ forget to save!!

Parent Portal and Grades • Why would you wait to publish scores? • Grading major projects over a period of days. You may not want students to see their scores before all have been graded. • To allow you time to review and revise scores if needed.
Filtering the Spreadsheet • Why use the filtering tool to analyze students’ scores? • Filtering assignments can assess a student’s performance within a category type of assignments. • Filtering can be used when you want to analyze how your class is doing in one area of assignments.
Summary Statistics • PowerTeacher gradebook gives you three pieces of information for each assignment: • Mean - average of the scores you entered • Median - middle of all values; half the scores will be above this number and half below • Mode - indicates the most common value
Summary StatisticsContinued • What does this information provide you? • Indicators of how well your students did on the assignment. • If any one of them is unexpectedly low, students may need additional practice on the skills. • The assessment may need to be revised.
Based upon your report selection, you will have different criteria to choose from. Reports
Student Reports • There are eight reports available in PowerTeacher gradebook. • Attendance Grid Report • Category Total Report • Final Grade and Comment Verification Report • Individual Student Report • Missing Assignment Report • Scoresheet • Student Multi-Section Report • Student Roster
Attendance Grid Report The student/date grid template. • How would this report be useful? • Taking attendance at field trips or other out-of-classroom events • As a roster for note-taking during students’ oral reports or presentations • To track class participation
Category Total Report This report gives summaries of category totals. • How would this report be useful? • Analyze how students perform on tests versus homework (or compare other categories) • May effect how grades are weighted.
Final Grade and Comment Verification This report lists term grades and teacher comments. • How would this report be useful? Can be used to confirm grades and teacher comments for progress reports and report cards.
Individual Student Report Lists a summary of class activity per student. • How would this report be useful? Can be used as a summary of student work to show parents at conferences or to a principal.
Missing Assignment Report Lists assignments that are missing per assignment or per student. • How would this report be useful? • Can be used with students and parents in helping the student keep up with the class work. • Useful to you as you target students who need extra help. • Helps you determine which assignments present the most challenge to students.
Scoresheet Shows a snapshot of your gradebook showing all students’ assignments and scores. • How would this report be useful? • You can use this report to print out their gradebooks if you would like a paper copy.
Student Multi-Section Report Generates a report of student information from all of a student’s sections.
Student Roster Lists student and parent information on a class roster. • How would this report be useful? • Use this for classroom field trips. • Use this for emergency contact list. • Print for your crisis kit each month.
