Quick NSBE History • When? • Founded in 1975 at Purdue University by six black engineers known as the “Chicago Six” • Why? • Saw the need for more minorities in the fields of Science, Math, and Engineering
What it is now! • One of the largest student-run organizations in the nation • Hundreds of chapters both nation-wide and internationally • Over 30,000 members • Nationally governed by an executive board of collegiate students • University of Florida Chapter of the NSBE • Resides in Region 3: The Powerhouse • Over 20 Years Old • 2007 Distinguished Chapter of the Year • 2009 Region 3 Large Chapter of the Year
