1774 Intolerable Acts • Soldiers in homes (quartering) • Massachusetts Officials Appointed by King (no elections)
1774 First Continental Congress • Colonists are loyal to Britain. • Colonists want self government.
April 1775 First Battle • British went to Concord to destroy guns. • Americans met them at Lexington. • 8 Americans killed. 75 British killed on the way back to Boston.
Second Continental Congress • In May 1775 they met. • In June they made George Washington the Commander of the Army.
July 4, 1776Declaration of Independence Main writer was Thomas Jefferson.
“WHEN, in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands, which have connected them with another, . . .” Declared our Independence from Great Britain.
