Data Platform Time Series Data Dissemination
Data Sources Macro economic data DP Sectoral data Sectoral data Sectoral data Social data Central Working DCS phase Data Collection Phase Use phase
What is DP ? – DP Framework Setup dimensions values Topic Pages Sectoral data Upload data Social Reports Intranet Working Database Dp Intranet server Derivations & Aggregations Macro Maps Upload metadata Ext. sect Dp Internet server Internet Working Database Charts Satellite DBs Data transfer To working DB Data Platform (DP) Data Collection System (DCS)
What is DP ? – User Functions • Explore data and retrieve information needed • Create Reports in the form of: • Tables • Charts • Maps • Queries • Web Pages • Create Custom indicators • Share data and make information more accessible
Benefits of DP ? • standardization of data processes (Metadata) • Improve on data quality • Data available dynamically on the intranet & the internet (data consistency), data not static • Communication, Create awareness of NSO as a knowledge institution • Easy data publishing, save on adhoc reports, increase efficiency • Empower users to prepare their own reports • Easy to use (No installation) • Secure access
Regional database & dissemination AfDB, AU and UNECA are working together to develop a common database and a Statistical Yearbook The 1st edition was published in April 2009 Work on the 2nd edition will start soon The contribution of NSOs is important to ensure country ownership Questionnaires will be sent to countries for completion and a data validation workshop will be organised
Conclusions and way forward Data archiving: • Support to countries to put in place data archiving tools Time series data dissemination: • Support regional institutions to use the DP (Afristat, WAMI…) • Customise the DP to fit specific needs Data management dissemination systems • MDGs: DEVINFO • Agriculture: COUNTRYSTAT Regional database & Yearbook • Questionnaires to be finalised and be sent to countries • Data cleaning and validation workshop in February 2010.
