  1. Welcome Ms. Rushin’s Kindergarten Class

  2. About Me My name is Katherine Rushin. This is my third year teaching Kindergarten at Baucom Elementary. I attended East Carolina University and majored in Elementary Education (K-6) and minored in Reading (K-12) and Child Development and Family Relations.

  3. Classroom Rules • Listen when your teacher is talking. • Follow directions quickly. • Respect others, respect yourself and respect our school. • Raise your hand to speak or stand. • Be safe, be kind, be honest.

  4. Literacy -Daily 5: A literacy program we use to create independence. *Read to Self *Read to Someone *Guided Reading Group *Listen to Reading *Word Work -Letterland phonics program -Concepts of Print -Rainbow Letters/Words (begin Monday, September 16th.

  5. Math -Math Expressions Unit 1: Number Sense Unit 2: Shapes in Space Unit 3: Addition and Subtraction Unit 4: Measurement and Data -BUILD Math Centers B- Buddy Games U- Using Manipulatives I- Independent Work L- Learning About Numbers D- Doing Math -Daily Math Journals

  6. Writing Writer’s Workshop: whole group lessons with time to meet with students individually or in a small group. Handwriting Journal

  7. Science -Investigating Properties -Animals Two by Two -Weather

  8. Units and Themes This is a block where we have a theme a week. This week we doing the themes “All About Me” and “Our Names.” Some examples: Apples, Dr. Seuss, Holidays around the World, Fairytales, etc.

  9. Daily schedule The daily schedule was included in the Open House Packet. Let me know if you need another copy!

  10. Field Trips -Volunteers—You MUST be registered to volunteer in any capacity. You must be registered to go with us on field trips. Please make other arrangements for siblings when you are working in the class or go with us on a field trip. Green Acres Farm: October (TBA) The Museum of Life and Science in Durham Weather Wizards

  13. Absences &Tardiness -If your child is going to be tardy or absent, please call the office and leave a message. The school number is 387-2168. Also, please send a written note upon their return to school. -Anytime afternoon transportation plans change, please notify me in writing or call the office and ask them to let me know.

  14. Other Info… -We will have at least 2 conferences. One will be in the fall and the second will be in the spring. Your child will also receive two report cards. One will be given in January and the other on the last day of school. -T-shirts -Star Student
