3. Origin of the State New Jersey was originally settled by Native Americans with the Lenni- Lenape begin dominant at the time Europeans arrived. The Lenape society was divided into matrilinear clans that were based upon common female ancestors. These clans were organized into three district phratries identified by their animal sign:Turtle, Turkey, and wolf. The state of New Jersey was first claimed by the Dutch. The Dutch colony of New Netherland consisted of parts of modern Middle Atlantic states. Although the European principle of land ownership was not recognized by the Lenape, Dutch West India Company policy required their colonist to purchase land which they settled. Laastly, New Jesey received its state name from Channel Isle of Jersey New Jersey’s early colonial history was involved with New York’s state history ( New Netherlands). The Dutch lost to England in 1664 in the war .New Jersey than became a English colony lead by Governor Philp Cartert. In 1676 the colony was divided between Cartert and English Quakers , who had the right to the belonging of John , Lord Berkeley . New Jersey then became a untied crown colony in 1702 , under the control of the royal governor from New York. Finally, in 1738, New Jersey became its own state and separated from New York, with its own governor.

4. Historical Facts New Jersey was the place where serveral wars and battles during the American Revolutionary War took place. On February 15,1804 New Jersey became the last northern state to get rid of slavery . New Jersey was one of the 13 original states. It was the third state to ratify U.S. Constitution in 1787 North American colony whose first European settlers were New Jersey is the only British not English.

5. Physical Features • New Jersey is made up of five regions based on a natural geography and population . Northeast New Jersey the gateway region lies between the New York metropolitan area where most of residents commute into the city work. North - western New Jersey or the Skylands is compared to northeast more because of its wooded rural areas and mountains , but still a popular place to live. • The Shore along the Atlantic coast in the central –east and southeast has its own natural residential and their lifestyle and characteristics, and the south-west are within metropolitan .Philadelphia is most likely include in the Delaware Valley. The fifth region is the Pine Barrens in the interior of the southern part. New Jersey is surrounded with a mixed of pine and oak forest trees, it has a much lower population and the density is much more than the rest of state. • New Jersey is also separate into three geographic regions ;North Jersey central Jersey and south Jersey. Some New Jersey residents don’t consider Central Jersey a region in its own right but many believe it is a divided a geographic and cultural area from the north , south .

13. What’s the weather like in New Jersey? • Highs and Lows • Summer s are typically hot and humid, with state wide average high temperatures of 82-88 ⁰F( 28-31 ⁰c). • Winters are usually cold, with over high temperatures of 38-46 ⁰F (3-8 ⁰c)

14. State Resources: • New Jersey has a strong scientific economy. New Jersey is home to major Pharmaceutical firms such as Johnson and Johnson, Sanofi-Aventis, Novartis, Pfizer-Merck, Wyeth, Hoffman- La Roche, Bristol- Myers Squibb and Schering-Plough. New Jersey is home to major telecommunications firms such as Verizon Wireless, A vaya, Alcatel-Lucent and AT&T communications. Furthermore, New Jersey draws upon its large and well-educated labor pool which also supports the myraid of industries that exist today.

15. New Jersey economy is also centered on chemical development, food processing, electric equipment, printing & publishing, and tourism. New Jersey’s agricultural outputs are nursery, stock, horses, vegetables, fruits, nuts, sea food and dairy products.

Points of Interest: - The Statue of Liberty resides in New Jersey waters, which is one of America's greatest symbols of freedom and opportunity. -New Jersey is the only state without a song, “Im from New Jersey” is incorrectly lised on many websites as begin in New Jersey . -New Jersey is the birth place of modern inventions such as FM radio The motion picture camera, Lithium battery, the light bulb transistors and the Electric train . -New Jersey has the most diners in the world, and is known for the diner capital of the world. -The first Indian reservation was in New Jersey. -New Jersey is the car theft capital of the world. More cars are stolen in Newark than any other city.
