Excretory system • removes excess, unnecessary or dangerous materials from an organism, so as to help maintain homeostasis within the organism and prevent damage to the body. It is responsible for the elimination of the waste products of metabolism as well as other liquid and gaseous wastes.
Major organs • kidneys, bladder, ureter, renal vein, and urethra.
Kidney • Bean shaped organ about the size of your fist. Filters blood and gets all the waste out.
Bladder • Stores the urine until it exits the body.
ureter • Transports the urine from the kidneys to the bladder.
renal vein • The main function of the Renal veins is to drain the blood from the kidneys into the vena cava. The Renal veins connect the inferior vena cava to each kidney.
urethra • The primary function of the urethra is to get rid of urine.
