MEDLINE Indexing • FY2009 • 712,675 citations indexed for MEDLINE. • 6% increase over FY2008. • 82,932 gene indexing links created (12% increase over FY2008). • FY2010 • Anticipating an overall rate of around 718,000 articles indexed. • As of May 2010, 68% of the MEDLINE journals are now indexed from the online version.
OLDMEDLINE Data • Over 64,000 citations added from the 1947 Current List of Medical Literature (CLML) to MEDLINE/PubMed (March 2010). • Working on mapping the citation keywords for the 1947 CLML citations to current MeSH. • In progress: 1946 CLML conversion.
PubMed • Major effort this past year: PubMed Redesign, launched in the fall of 2009. • 3 Preview Webcasts held in the summer. • 4 Demonstration Webcasts provided during the introductory period. • Updates to the PubMed tutorial and training workbooks.
PubMed • Advanced Search, Limits and Homepage further revised, based on feedback and usage analysis (January 2010): • Advanced Search page and Limits function separated into 2 different pages. • Links added above the Search Box. • Advance Search – Search Builder feature for searching and browsing by fields. • Homepage continues to add small changes to the new layout.

PubMed – Additional Changes • New PubMed Batch Citation Matcher introduced, with results sent via email (November 2009). • Emailing of large search results restored (February 2010). • Citations for items in the BookShelf have begun to be included in PubMed (April 2010). • New Special Queries/Topic-Specific Queries: • Electronic Health Record Resources (January 2010). • Research Reporting Guidelines (January 2010). • Comparative Effectiveness Research (April 2010).
Coming Very Soon • Updated design to Discovery Ads, with minimization feature to collapse content. • PubMed “Send to E-mail Abstract Format” enhanced: • Choose to include the additional data associated with a PubMed citation. • MeSH • Publication types

PubMed - MyNCBI • MyNCBI – new features and functions. • “Recent Activity” feature expanded to show up to 6 months of activity. • Customize “Search Results Display”. • Set default behavior for: • Displaying additional information (open/closed). • Auto Suggest function in search box (on/off). • Number of filters expanded to 15. • Bibliography function – user can create bibliography with citations from journals, books, etc.
My NCBI / My Bibliography • New feature facilitates the management of publication compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy (January 2010). • eRA Commons users – Extramural principal investigators, grantees or applicants. • Link eRA Commons account with My NCBI/My Bibliography account. • New Awards View in My Bibliography provides compliance information.
My Bibliography • Awards View • Check if listed publications are compliant. • Start Manuscript Submission Process. • Associate NIH extramural awards with publications. • Assign delegates to manage bibliographies. • Delegates must have their own MyNCBI account.
My Bibliography – Awards View • Compliance Indicators: • Non compliant. • Citation has been submitted and is in process. • Citation is compliant and PMCID number displayed. • Not Applicable (N/A) label – articles submitted prior to April 7, 2008 and are not covered by the policy. • Question Mark (?) – more information is needed before compliance status can be indicated. • Compliance Wizard available.

PubMed Central • PMC statistics as of May 1, 2010 • Over 590 fully participating journals. • Over 1.97 million articles. • PMC Canada - launched January 2010 • Collaboration between NLM, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (NRC-CISTI). • CIHR now a granting organization within MEDLINE/PubMed; data carried in the Grant (GR) field.
