Ancient Indian coins come in various types and all of them have a lot of historical significance, due to which they are always popular among collectors all over the world.  • Let’s take a look at some historical coins of India that were issued by ancient janapadas and independence kingdoms like Gandhara, Magadha-Maurya, Gupta and Kalachuri of Tripuri.

  3. GandharaJanapada issued rectangle shaped silver coins of the denomination 1 Shatamana somewhere from 600BC to 300BC. • These 11.5 grams old Indian coins are rare and were punch marked twice to inscribe two six-petal flowers on one side. The other side was left blank.

  4. Imperial Magadha Rulers from Magadha-MauryanJanapada issued irregular shaped silver coins of the denomination 25 Mashaka somewhere around 600BC to 150BC. • These 5.4 grams Indian old coins are Punch Marked with a standard six-armed symbol; Sun; Plant with five branches, each ending with a bud and a triangle around three dots.

  5. This Gupta Empire gold dinar was struck under the regime of Samudragupta somewhere around 335 AD to 375 AD. • These 7 to 8 grams rare old coins of India were Die Struck featuring a King holding battle axe and a sword along with an attendant on the obverse. Two Brahmi texts "Samudra" and "KritantparshurJayatyajitaRajajetajitah” are also included. The reverse features a seated Goddess and the legend "Kritantparashuh".

  6. Kalachuri of Tripuri issued gold coins of the denomination 4 1/2 Masha under the regime of GangeyaDeva somewhere around 1015 AD to 1040 AD. • These 4.05 grams Old Indian Coinsfeature a seated Goddess Lakshmi wearing a head gear and necklace on the obverse while the reverse features the Nagari legend ' SrimadGangeyaDeva".
