STAR STUDENTS Welcome to Class Connections Mrs. Beach’s Fourth Grade 2017-2018
Meet Mrs. Beach This is my 16th year teaching fourth grade and it’s always an adventure! • 2 Children: • Chloe is in 4th grade • Carson is in 2nd grade • We love to go camping. • I spent a lot of time gardening and canning this summer.
Entryway • All students/parents will need to wait in the entryway until the doors open at 8:30 am. Students going to Kids Club will be able to go through the office. * Parents picking up children at the end of the day will need to wait in the new entryway until school is dismissed. There will be sign-out sheets per grade level to sign.
Classroom Communications • * Planners • Homework (Spelling, Reading Log, AR) • Any Unfinished Classroom Assignments • *If students have excessive homework each night please let me know. • * Weekly Email Communication • I will get your email off of the emergency contact form. • If you don’t have access to email please let me know and notes will be sent home weekly.
Classroom Management • School wide use of Nurtured Heart approach. (Focusing on the Positives) • Behavior Rubrics • Class Dojo • Reasons for resets Off Task Behavior Shouting Out Interrupting Others Playing with Materials Troubles in Specials Hallway Misbehavior
Brain Break and Snack * Snacks: Healthy Brain Food (except Birthdays) * Students have the opportunity to go outside each day. * Students may be in for Brain Break Detention if: • They have missing or late assignments • The class receives 3 or more class resets in one day.
Fourth Grade Curriculum * Common Core Parent Guides for Math and ELA are available • Spelling based on student’s knowledge of spelling patterns. * Social Studies taught by Mr. VanEpps * Science taught by Mrs. Balfour * Grammar taught by Mrs. Beach
Specials Schedule Monday: STEAM Tuesday: Gym, Library & Library Checkout Wednesday: STEAM Thursday: Technology Friday: Gym
At Home Projects * Bring in pictures to decorate our writers notebooks. * Disguise a turkey for a writing project. * Electric Boards * Think Energy Kits and Survey
Field Trips * Lansing State Capital and Michigan History Museum * Potter Park Zoo- Students will research how a zoo runs for a writing assignment. * JC-Potter Center for a play. * We try to cover some of the cost of our trips by running the fourth grade school supply store, Supplies R Us. However, there will still be a cost per student.
Report Cards * 4 – Consistently and Independently Meets and Exceeds Standards * 3 – Meets Standards * 2 – Approaches Standards: Needs Additional Practice and Support * AC – Below Standards: Area of Concern
