What is a thunderstorm? • A storm with lightning and thunder • Heavy rain • Gusty wind • Sometimes hail
What causes a Thunderstorm? • Moisture to form clouds and rain • Unstable air • Lift from fronts, sea breezes or mountains.
When do Thunderstorms Occur? • Can occur anytime! • Most likely to occur during Spring and Summer seasons • Afternoon and evening hours
Are thunderstorms dangerous? • All thunderstorms are dangerous, even if they are minor storms • Thunderstorms produce lightning, which can be very harmful to people • Be careful!
How YOU Can Stay safe during a thunderstorm! • Go to a safe place immediately if you hear thunder • Stay AWAY from trees and water • Wait at least 30 minutes after the last observed lightning strike or thunder to go back outside
