How to get the kids excited? • It’s MY party, they are invited! • Make it fun! • Make it exciting! • Prizes • Food • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeyNVOepYyo
How to get the Teachers excited? • It’s YOUR party! • Make it fun! • Make it exciting! • Have teachers pick from content areas needed that THEY like • Have the sessions be those that you cannot always do “in school” due to number constraints, supplies, etc. • Keep it hands – on! • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRMOMjCoR58
Invitations Invite only “bubble” students Hand out 2 weeks prior to date Can hold 1 or 2, depending on campus STAARdom is in reach! Have adminstrator send an IRIS alert, mass email, or both to those students invited.
Rotation Schedule • Each teacher has 25 minutes per rotation. • 8 rotations in this scenario • Teacher is responsible for: • Stamping passport • Covering material in an energetic and different way • Formative assess for understanding
Passports • One per student • Stamped by teacher at sessions • Earn Raffle tickets per stamp • Turn into classroom teacher on Monday for: • extra credit • replace HW zero • Additional points to major project or test • Etc.
Closing out the day… • End the day with a bang! • Have a teacher do a “fire” experiment • Mythbusters – “phone book” myth • “Elephant toothpaste” • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3P9fyJEu6E

To do’s: • Put your date/dates on the master calendar – NOW • Determine the science budget in September and ear – marked for this event • Determine the number of students based upon the number of teachers volunteering to teach. (8-10 per classroom) • Fundraise/begin to ask for donations from parents at open house, etc. • Donations – begin early. Gift cards, in-kind, etc. may need lead time. Walmart, HEB, need at least one month notice. • Set invite list one month out (ideal) • Set invitations to go home 2 weeks before • Set IRIS alert/emails to go the week of the event as a reminder • Ask for RSVP’s. You may not get them, but it will trigger parent questions. • Have goody bags, etc stuffed by the Wednesday before the Saturday
Resources needed: • One or two teachers per classroom • Paper copies: passports, cut in line passes, door rotation labels, invitations • Brown paper bags as goody bags and notes page! • Goody bag items: oriental trading, gift cards, pencils, erasers, highlighters, etc. • Candy for bags • Donuts/Capri Suns for breakfast • Stamps for teachers (from Oriental Trading possibly) • Donations, donations, donations!
Other ideas? • Lunch bunch – believe it or not….eating lunch with the teacher is STILL cool! • Morning/Afternoon Boot Camp (theme in camo)
Variations? Thoughts? • Your ideas??? • How would you implement on your campus? • What obstacles do you see yourself facing? • Questions?
