Creating an Enhanced Podcast Using a Mac • Jen La Certe • Chaparral Middle School
Enhanced Podcast • Uses sound & pictures • Can be viewed/heard in iTunes or any mp3 player • Easy for students & teachers to create • Does not require excessive storage
What You Need • A Mac • GarageBand or Audacity • Pictures (or PowerPoint or Keynote slides) • A plan
Garage Band & Audacity • All new Mac’s come with Garage Band • Audacity is mainly for PCs and can be downloaded for free—it is only for audio • Keynote is the Mac version of PowerPoint…either one works
GarageBand • Click on Create New Podcast Episode
You will give your project a name • You should create a new folder to keep all your stuff in Text Using GarageBand
Click on a track (male or female voice) • Click on the red record button and speak clearly into the top of the screen • To stop recording click red button and play button Recording Audio: voice
Putting in Pictures • Click photos on the media browser • Click on the photo you want and drag it to the podcast track
You can add fun stuff using the Jingles track and the many choices below.
Some Tips on PowerPoint or Keynote: • PowerPoint: go to File> Page Setup> set the slides to be square • Keynote: click on inspector, select the document icon, go to Slide Size and select Custom, and set to any square size
One More Thing on PowerPoint or Keynote: • PowerPoint: to make the slides into pictures just go to File > Save as Pictures • Keynote: to make the slides into pictures go to File > Send to... > iPhoto
Go to the “Share” menu and select “Export Podcast to Disk” Finishing Up
Select “Export” then choose a place to save the mp4 (iTunes) file and click “Save”.
To play the podcast in iTunes: drag the m4a file into the iTunes Library.
