A new 4-year, constitutionally based government took office in March 2006, and a new cabinet was installed in May 2006. On June 31, 2009, U.S. troops withdrew from urban areas, a step that reinforced Iraqi sovereignty. On March 7, 2010, Iraq held a second round of national elections to choose the members of the Council of Representatives and, in turn, the executive branch of government. The Iraq government is a parliamentary democracy.
The deBa’athification of the Iraqi culture, government and economy The commission of deBa’athification was presented to the Iraqi National council. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the commission's director, Mithal al-Alusi, because he visited Israel, a crime under Saddam Hussein's regime, The New York Times reported in October 2004
Disbanding the Iraqi Military The Iraq war has put 250,00 young Iraqi men out of jobs on the streets. It has led to violent chaos and has been known as “Bush’s mistake”.
Obama plans to withdraw troops from Iraq by the end of August 2010. Between 350,00 to 50,000 troops will remain in Iraq . Troops in Iraq - Total 49,700 U.S. troops as of August 23, 2010. All other nations have withdrawn their troops.
