Overview Screening for Non-Communicable Disease Four Criteria for an Ideal Screening Program In the Footnotes Testing Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALYs) Genetic Testing
Screening for Non-Communicable Disease • Completed when individuals are asymptomatic • Three screenings recommended at least once a year for everyone: • Cholesterol • Blood pressure • Blood sugar • Other screenings are done based on risk.
Four Criteria for an Ideal Screening Program The disease produces substantial death and/or disability. Early detection is possible and improves outcome. There is a feasible testing strategy for screening. Screening is acceptable in terms of harms, costs, and patient acceptance.
