OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS (OIP) • Office in FHWA, 20 staff • Mission: Enable easier access to technology, information, and markets • Facilitators, not subject matter experts • Legislation to spend $ outside USA • Significant experience with T2/Information sharing
CURRENT SITUATION • New OST International Strategy has been developed • Primary Goal: Safe, Secure and Efficient Transportation of People and Goods • Highest Geographic Priority = Canada and Mexico - Starting at Borders • Priority Programs = Road Safety, Standards Harmonization, Open Markets, Technical Assistance
CURRENT SITUATION OF OIP’S CANADA PROGRAM • OIP’s only current activity at USA/Canada border is seed funding of T2 Program in AK, WA • Very limited funding • Interest in building on existing relationships
FUTURE VISION AND NEXT STEPS
OIP’s VISION: CANADA PROGRAM • Acknowledge and build on the existing relationships • Creation of an effective technology and information exchange program • Leveraging funding through strategic partnerships • OIP’s role is as a Facilitator
