  3. OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS (OIP) • Office in FHWA, 20 staff • Mission: Enable easier access to technology, information, and markets • Facilitators, not subject matter experts • Legislation to spend $ outside USA • Significant experience with T2/Information sharing

  4. CURRENT SITUATION • New OST International Strategy has been developed • Primary Goal: Safe, Secure and Efficient Transportation of People and Goods • Highest Geographic Priority = Canada and Mexico - Starting at Borders • Priority Programs = Road Safety, Standards Harmonization, Open Markets, Technical Assistance

  5. CURRENT SITUATION OF OIP’S CANADA PROGRAM • OIP’s only current activity at USA/Canada border is seed funding of T2 Program in AK, WA • Very limited funding • Interest in building on existing relationships

  6. FUTURE VISION AND NEXT STEPS

  7. OIP’s VISION: CANADA PROGRAM • Acknowledge and build on the existing relationships • Creation of an effective technology and information exchange program • Leveraging funding through strategic partnerships • OIP’s role is as a Facilitator

  8. OIP CANADA PROGRAM – 2 OBJECTIVES/ 2 COMPONENTS TBWG Products US National and State Governments • Potential Activities • Borderwide • e.g. Road Safety, • Standards, Open • Markets T2 Centers/ LTAP End Users Canadian National and Provincial Governments

  10. NEXT STEPS • Listen • Working Meeting with Alberta and US Stakeholders in late June • Move forward with WA, VT discussions • Expand programs with AK • Design Govt to Govt Programs with Canada at National and Provincial Level
