THE 2009 FEDERAL BUDGETImpact on Employment Ontario • A portion of the new funding of $1 billion over two years for Employment Insurance training programs, to top up the current funding of $1.95 billion annually, will be provided through the LMDA. • A portion of the $500 million being provided to provinces through the Strategic Training and Transition Fund will be administered through the LMA. • Funding for employment programs and initiatives will be provided according to a province’s share of the unemployed across Canada. • MTCU and the Government of Ontario will review all federal initiatives to ensure that they are suited to meet the needs of our province.
EMPLOYMENT SERVICES UPDATE • We are currently reviewing next steps of the implementation process with decision makers. • We will continue to keep service providers informed throughout the process. • We are committed to identifying the first wave of service providers who will deliver the new ES model. • Required business supports will be in place for Spring 2009.

SECOND CAREERApplication Process MTCU has improved and streamlined the Second Career (SC) application form and process, and is considering other program delivery Improvements, based on productive dialogue with stakeholders over Fall 2008. • Short Term Improvements: On January 30, 2009, introduced a new shorter, more simplified application form. • Medium Term Improvements: Including establishing customer service standards and sharing best practices in a range of areas related to the SC application process. • Longer Term Improvements: Including an on-line application form and developing program effectiveness standards for performance measurement.
