POPGORDAN KORMANYear Published 2009REALISTIC FICTION MM 2NDPeriod
Setting • The setting in the book POP is in Kennesaw NY. Marcus just moved there in the middle of summer. The reason why its important because Marcus would have never met Charlie at Three Alarm Park. Charlie is a big character who deeply affected this story. If the setting was different this book would not be called POP because POP is Charlie.
Conflict • The main conflict in the story is Marcus tries to help Charlie but gets arrested, Charlie's kids, the exterminator, Charlie's wife and his mom. This is a man v society type of conflict in this book.
Summary of Plot • Marcus moves to a new town in the summer. He practices football at Three Alarm Park when he becomes friends with a retired professional linebacker whose strange behavior confuses him. Marcus finally discovers that this player named Charlie is actually suffering from neurological disease.
Theme • Friendship can be very helpful to other people. • Text Evidence 1: Marcus helps Charlie by taking him to EDU. Page # 170 • Text Evidence 2: Charlie helps Marcus get better at football. Page # 24 • Text Evidence 3: Marcus help Charles's family realize how important some stuff is to Charlie. Page # 252
Point of View • The author's point of view in this story is third person limited. If he used a different point of view we would not understand Charlie at all.
Symbolism • Symbolism for this book is friend ship because Marcus tries to help Charlie a lot. He risks everything to help him. If Marcus never become friends with Charlie this story would not have a conflict in it.
Recommendation • I would recommend this book to people who love football. I would also recommend it to teens because it has things in it for teens. It has a lot of drama, so this book just keeps on giving.
