Established in 1983 in New Delhi, India • Founded by a group of scientists from Jawaharlal University • Based on ideologies of Gandhi, Jayaprakesh Narayan, Betty Friedan, and Simone de Beauvoir • Have since shifted its focus on empowering women, protecting and ensuring women’s rights, and understanding social issues from a gender perspective History
