  1. Current status of realtime seismic network in and around Japanese Islands Japan Agnecy for Marine-Earth Science and Technology Seiji Tsuboi

  2. Seismological stations in Japan After 1995 Kobe earthquake, installation of stations has been accelerated. As of 2011; ・1235 short period 3 component seismometer ・125 broadband 3 component seismometer ・3721 strong motion seismometer ・1466 GPS stations Most of these are connected in realtime

  3. Realtime data transmission through IP-VPN 100Hz sampling rate digital seismograms from more than 800 seismic stations are transmitted in realtime Win format is used Duality of transmission is secured (UDP and IP) Delay time should be less than 1 second and quality should be 99%. Data are used to locate earthquake hypocenter and issue earthquake early warnings

  4. Earthquake Early Warning by JMA

  5. 20 ocean bottom observatories will be installed in future To-Nankai earthquake rupture area. Type of instruments: ■Strong Motion Seismometer : Metrozet TSA-100S ■Broadband seismometer : Guralp CMG-3TRH ■Hydrophone : High Tech HTI-99-DY ■Differential Pressure Gauge : Nichiyu Giken Kogyo MA-567000 ■Quartz Crystal Pressure Gauge : Paro Scientific 8B7000-2-005 ■Precision Thermometer : Nichiyu Giken Kogyo MA-565-2 series

  6. Earth Simultor 2 The new Earth Simulator system, which began operation in March 2009, achieved sustained performance of 122.4 TFLOPS and computing efficiency of 93.38% on the LINPACK Benchmark

  7. Next Generation Supercomputer Project • The system will use scalar CPUs (SPARC64™ VIIIfx, 8 cores, 128 gigaflops) manufactured with 45nm process technology. • The network between the computing nodes will consist of a direct-connection network. • With its water cooling system, the supercomputer will maintain a low temperature in the CPU and other LSIs, minimizing the failure rate and reducing power consumption. • Max. performance 10 Petaflops • Completion planned for 2012

  8. Next Generation Supercomputer Project

  9. High precision simulation of earthquake and tsunamis

  10. Simulation of strong ground motion

  11. Simulation of tsunamis

  12. Simuation of seismic hazard in the cities
