  1. Revolutionary Vocabulary

Revolution • Revolution is usually defined as a change in the character of a nation’s government. • Such a change does not have to occur through violence. • Revolutions may also occur in other areas, such as, cultural, economic, and social activities. Ex. Industrial Revolution, Scientific Revolution, and clothes fads. • Revolutions may last a day or many years, it varies. Also, sometimes revolution effects society sometimes it does not. Ex. Russian revolution gave people ownership of property, and the American Revolution changed the government but not how people lived.

  3. Civil Disobedience • breaking a law on purpose to get a law changed. This is illegal, however usually peaceful. Ex. People Burning Draft Cards during the Vietnam War

  4. Junta • is a small group that takes over a government and rules by force. Most juntas are composed of high ranking military officers. (Usually common in the Latin American Countries)

  5. Coup de’ Etat • is the sudden take over of a country’s government by a group of conspirators. Usually public officials are the conspirators. Ex. France-Napoleon

  6. Guerilla Warfare • Military tactic in which sneak attack and retreat methods are used to gain an advantage. (Colonists were the first to use in the American Revolution)
