  1. How Dentist Clean Plaque Plaque is a sticky, colourless film of bacteria that constantly forms on teeth. It is caused by the bacteria in our mouths combining with sugars and starches from the foods we eat, which produces acid that can attack tooth enamel. Plaque that is not removed through regular brushing and flossing can harden into tartar, which can only be removed by a dental hygienist. Plaque can also cause inflammation of the gums, known as gingivitis, and if left untreated, can lead to more serious conditions such as periodontitis, which can cause tooth loss and other health problems. Dentists clean plaque by using a variety of tools and techniques, including manual instruments such as scalers and curettes, as well as ultrasonic devices that use high-frequency sound waves to break up plaque and tartar. They may also use an antimicrobial rinse or gel to kill bacteria and freshen the breath. The process of cleaning plaque is called scaling and root planning. They will use a scaler, a tool with a small, hooked end, to remove plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line. They may also use an ultrasonic cleaner, which uses vibrations to

  2. remove plaque and tartar. The hygienist will then smooth out the roots of the teeth to discourage plaque and tartar build-up in the future. They typically use a variety of cleaning procedures to remove plaque from teeth, including: 1.Scaling: This involves using manual tools such as scalers and curettes to remove plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line. 2.Root planning: After scaling, the dentist will smooth out the roots of the teeth to discourage plaque and tartar build-up in the future. 3.Ultrasonic cleaning: This method uses high-frequency sound waves to break up plaque and tartar, which can then be suctioned away. 4.Air polishing: This procedure uses a combination of air, water, and a fine powder to remove plaque and surface stains from teeth. 5.Antimicrobial rinse or gel: Dentists may use an antimicrobial rinse or gel to kill bacteria and freshen the breath after cleaning. The cleaning procedure will depend on the individual's needs and will be discussed with the dentist during the consultation.

  3. Regular visits to the dental clinic for cleaning and check-up are important in maintaining oral health and preventing the build-up of plaque and other oral problems.
