Why Gender Sensitive Value Chain Development Social (rights-based/ justice) arguments • Men ánd women should benefit from development interventions • Gender equality is one of our development objectives Economic (business) arguments • Women are important to achieve poverty alleviation • Women often play important (but invisible) roles in value chains thus playing a key role in upgrading strategies
Pay attention to gender in the different phases of value chain development:
During this workshop We will address tools for: • Selecting a value chain based on a set of gender criteria • ‘Mapping’ a value chain from a gender perspective • Assessing costs and benefits of an upgrading strategy for men and women • Measuring gender impact with the gender and VC diamond More tools on the Toolbox of the Gender in VC Ning: http://genderinvaluechains.ning.com/page/toolkit-scoping
How? • We will work in groups • 1-2 groups will practice with the same tool • 5-6 people per group • Each group will apply the selected tool for a case the know • 4 resource persons are available for the 4 tools • At the end of the group work you will be asked to summarize the pros and cons of the tool. • This will be share after lunch
