Overview and Detail about each retirement plan (ERA and ARP)
ERA retirement eligibility criteria • 25 years of service(30 after 7/1/2010) • Rule of 75 (80 after 7/1/2010) • Rule of 65 plus 5 (67 plus 5 after 7/1/2010) • Satisfy ERA requirements (left) • Satisfy provisions of policy 3600, section 2.3 • Must coordinate retirement through Retiree Services division (either attend “I want to retire Now” or schedule an appointment if not able to attend class) ERA PLAN REQUIREMENTS UNM REQUIREMENTS
ARP retirement eligibility criteria • Must be separated from employer • Must be 59 ½ • Satisfy ARP requirements (left) • Satisfy provisions of policy 3600, section 2.3 • Must apply for a minimum distribution from the ARP provider • Must coordinate retirement through Retiree Services division (either attend “I want to retire Now” or schedule an appointment if not able to attend class) ARP PROVIDER REQUIREMENTS UNM REQUIREMENTS
The ARP retirement application process (from the web) You should start the application process roughly 90 days prior to your intended retirement date. Notify your department, in writing, of your intentions to retire from UNM. Contact your ARP provider and apply for your annuity distribution. Your distribution date must be the first of the month following your last scheduled day of employment with UNM. Once you have received a copy of your distribution paperwork from your ARP provider, complete it, sign it, and make a copy of the distribution paperwork to provide to Retiree Services. If you are eligible for UNM benefits as a retiree and plan to keep UNM benefits into retirement, complete the UNM Benefit Election form(over 65 or under 65) along with your ARP distribution paperwork. Register for the “I’m ready to retire NOW” through Learning Central or call Employee and Organizational Development (EOD) at 277-1555 to register. You can choose to bring your retirement paperwork to this class for review prior to turning it in to Retiree Services. If you are unable to attend this class, you can call 277-6947 to meet with a Retirement representative.

Go to HR Web site at http://hr.unm.edu/ and download the following forms: ERB Application for Retirement UNM Benefit Election form(Under 65 or Over 65) *Remember to submit BOTH pages of the ERB Application and Verification of Birth Information to the Retiree Services Division (located in the HR Service Center) Register for the class “I’m ready to retire NOW” through Learning Central or call Employee and Organizational Development (EOD) at 277-1555 to register. You can bring your retirement paperwork to this class for review prior to turning it in to Retiree Services.
