How did ARES get involved? Atlanta Metro ARES was invited to attend the December meeting of the Metropolitan Medical Response System (MMRS) Since Katrina, public health is actively seeking ARES support in their disaster planning They knew much of what we could do for them But, they asked what they could do for us
Antenna System Goals • To facilitate the deployment of amateur radio stations at key hospitals in an emergency • To expedite establishment of those stations
Diamond X50NA omni-directional 144/440 MHz antenna. Gain at 144MHz = 4.5 dB Gain at 440 MHz = 7.2 dB Wind rating = 135 MPH Height = 5.6 feet Connector = Type - N (female) DC Grounded
Initial Actions • Notify EC or DEC in each hospital ARES district about antenna project • Ask them to provide local assistance in siting antenna and coax • Provide list of EC or DEC contacts to DHR contractor (DataFM)
What’s Next? • Assist DHR with bid spec. info for materials and installation labor • Establish contact points for key hospital staff • Meet with hospital leadership along with local EC or DEC to explain the program • Work with DHR to determine what is needed at each hospital location
Final result should be . . . . To have pre-trained ARES teams for each of the 13 Regional Coordinating Hospitals with a defined operating position and antenna ready to go
