  3. SURE THERE HAS BEEN MODERNIZATION IN LAST 20 YEARS LOOKING, FOR EXAMPLE, AT MEAT! IN 1992…

  5. THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE IS TO MODERNIZE ADMINISTRATIVE AND CORPORATE CULTURES • MODERN HIGH-TECH COUNTRIES WITH INNOVATIVE COMPANIES WERE NOT CREATED BY POLITICIANS • THEY EMERGED AS PRODUCTS OF FREE SOCIETIES WERE PEOPLE ARE FREE TO FIND SMART SOLUTIONS FOR BUSINESS NEEDS

  6. RUSSIAN STATE’S TWO CHALLENGES TO OVERCOME: • CORRUPTION • BUREAUCRACY • Actually a third problem…

  7. But it is hard to do anything about this one. But, develop the south.

  8. BUT RUSSIAN CORPORATIONS MUST ALSO MODERNIZE • CORPORATE CULTURES IN RUSSIA ARE MODELLED ON THE OLD SOVIET COMMAND-AND-CONTROL SYSTEM • THEY STIFLE CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION

  9. PROBLEMS TO BE OVERCOME • Leaders don’t lead • Hierarchy • Bureaucracy • Non-transparent • Inflexible • A culture of blame

  10. WHAT IS NEEDED IS LEADERSHIP AND EMPLOYEE ENGAGMENT • True leaders • Engagement • Trust, fairness, respect • Customer focus • Encouraging risk-taking • Intelligent communication • Flexible organizations • Efficient processes • Empowerment
