  2. Sir James Ivory's education In 1779 he went to University of St Andrews and at Edinburgh university He studied theology at both of them but, after two sessions at St Andrews and one at Edinburgh he deserted all idea of the church.

  3. Important dates • in 1786 he became an assistant-teacher of mathematics • In 1831, on the advice of Lord Brougham King William IV granted him a pension of 487.95 per annum, • He died September 21, 1842
