  1. Taking a Closer Look at History Artifact Number 9

  2. The next slide will contain a picture of an authentic artifact from the Memorial Hall Museum in Old Deerfield, Massachusetts. When you see the artifact, please examine it for 10 seconds. After ten seconds, you will be asked to write a detailed description of the artifact.

  3. The next slide will show the same picture divided into four quadrants. Please study each quadrant individually. What details do you notice? From what materials was the artifact made?

  4. How would you revise your first description of the artifact using the information you gathered after taking a closer look at each quadrant in the picture of the artifact? Please write your revised description. Who do you think would use this artifact? How do you think this was used in colonial times? What questions do you have about the artifact?

  5. You will be asked to share what you have learned about your artifact with the rest of the class. How old is your artifact? What interesting information did you learn about it? Click on the URL below for more information about this artifact. http://www.americancenturies.mass.edu/collection/itempage.jsp?itemid=6006 After learning about your artifact, please describe something that we use in 2005 that is similar in construction or purpose to your colonial artifact. What changes have occurred or have not occurred since colonial times?
