  1. Welcome The IAHSGCA presents the high school boys and girls golf ranking system Eric Perry (Clear Lake HS) perryer@clearlake.k12.ia.us 641-357-8926

  2. Why Rankings? Individual and team rankings are designed to create interest and give recognition to our high school golfers across the state. These rankings are now used to determine All-State Teams in each class.

  3. Must be an IAHSGCA Member!! • The Golf Coaches Association ranks, and awards the players, not the IAHSAA. • To Join: go to www.iahsgca.org • Click on Forms • Must Download 2009 Spreadsheet • Fill out • Send, address is on the form. (Check with AD, for school rate, make sure they send).

  4. How rankings work! Since golf courses are not standard and unique in appearance and design, course ratings of each course played are used to figure a golfers “scoring average”.Coaches will calculate all their own players “scoring average” on a downloadable spreadsheet on the IAHSGCA website. Coaches simply type in scores, the spreadsheet will do all the calculations.

  5. Individual Ratings Individual ratings will be based on a calculated scoring average. Each score plus/minus* the course rating of the course played will be calculated. A standard par of 36 will be used. *Most courses have ratings lower than par, so most of the time you will add strokes to your players score to figure “scoring average”.

  6. Course not rated If you play on a course that is not rated, then use the “standard of difficulty” which is (-1) off of par. {Ex: If a course is not rated and par 36 you make the course rating 35.} See if your course superintendent can have the IGA rate it.

  7. Course Not Par 36? • If you play on a course that is not 36 for par, or the back nine of a course is not 36, you will have to add a stroke to each score under 36 or add strokes to any course more than 36. • {Par 35, you will add an additional stroke to your golfers score.} • {Par 37, you will subtract a stroke from your golfers score.} The formulas in the spreadsheet will do this for you.

  8. Course Rating We will base the rankings on 9-hole scores. If you play 18-hole matches or tournaments, put them down as two scoring averages. If you play a 9-hole event on an 18-hole course, the course rating is probably an 18-hole rating. Simply cut the rating in half, and use that as your course rating, unless the course has separate rating for the front and the back nine.*Extra holes or playoff holes will not be counted in the “scoring average”.

  9. DON’T WORRY The spreadsheet will calculate the golfers adjusted scores, you only need to type in the necessary information. This is an easy process.

  10. Requirements/Criteria for Rankings • Must compete for the varsity in two-thirds of your scheduled meets. (No JV Results) • Must have an adjusted average of at least a 45 for boys and 55 for girls. • Golfers must be on the varsity roster to be ranked. Schools can only have a maximum of six golfers ranked at a time. • Coaches must fill in and attached the 2009 ranking spreadsheet to their email or fax. • Coaches must send in their rankings by the deadline for each due date. • In order for golfers to receive post-season awards, coaches must send in their golfers rankings on the final due date for rankings. • The school or coach must be a member of the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association for their golfer to receive post-season awards.
