2. A BusyYearAt Stockbridge Primary What have we achieved? What are our strengths? What do we need to do next?

Raising Attainment in Literacy and Language What did we do? • We developed and agreed a new Progressive Spelling Programme. • We delivered the Read Write Incprogramme and the Fresh Start Programme to learners with identified support needs. • We further developed our ‘school reading culture’ through the introduction of an outdoor library. What was the impact? • Almostall children(97%) are achievingexpectedlevels in P1 (an increasefrom 93% in 2016). Meanstandardised score of 113. • Almostall children(92%) are achievingexpectedlevels in P4 (an increasefrom 84% in 2016). Meanstandardised score of 110. • Most children (88%) are achievingexpectedlevels In P7 (89% in 2016 but thisreflects the additionalneeds in thiscohort). Meanstandardised score of 117. What Next? • We will launch our newly developed Progressive Spelling Programme P3-7. • We will further develop our grammar progression. • We will further develop a genre progression. • We will continue to engage with the National benchmarks to support our assessment and moderation of Literacy and Language.

RaisingAttainment in Numeracy and Mathematics Whatdidwe do? • We continued to embed SEAL in Nursery to P3 and rolledit out in P4. • We developed a wholeschoolapproach to mental agilitythrough ‘Stockbridge Counts’ • We continued to support staff development in maths through CPD and Collegiate time. • We continued to identify and support learnerswhowere not achievingexpectedlevelsthrough interventions in class and small group workwithour Support for Learning Team. • We have invested in resources to extendourmost able learners – TJ textbooks, NRichetc and a small group workedwith the maths departmentfrom the High School. Whatwas the impact? • All children (100%) are achievingexpectedlevels in P1 (an increasefrom93% in 2016). Meanstandardised score of 106. • Almostall children (92%) are achievingexpectedlevelsin P4 (an increasefrom 73% in 2016). Meanstandardised score of 111. • Most children (88%) are achievingexpectedlevels In P7 (an increasefrom77% in 2016). Meanstandardised score of 113. WhatNext? • We will continue to embedour SEAL and Stockbridge Countsapproaches. • We will use the new National Benchmarks for moderation and assessment. • We will pilot the use of Numicon to support learnerswith Additional Needsin Numeracy and Mathematics.

Cluster Planning, Assessment and Moderation of Mathematics Whatdidwe do? • Weworkedwith Broughton High School Cluster Colleagues to ensure a consistent approach to the planning, assessment and moderation of expressions and equations. • Weworkedwithcolleaguesfromacross the Cluster to createexemplars of evidence to support ourmoderation. Whatwas the impact? • Most StockbridgeLearnerswereassessed as meeting expectedlevels of attainment in expressions and equationswork. • Staff are confident in theirteacherassessments. WhatNext? • Wewillshare CEC progression pathways and increase staff confidence usingthese, to ensure staff have a sharedunderstanding of the standards across the levels. • Wewillprovideopportunities to meet the professionaldevelopmentneedsidentified by staff.

Building Resilience Whatdidwe do? • We launchedour Building Resilience Programme (Nursery – Primary 7) Whatwas the impact? • Learners are using the languagethatthey have learntthrough the programme whenexperiencing challenges - ‘I cant do it…yet!’ • Learners are explicitlytaughtthat the choicesthattheymakecanshapetheirbrain and thattheirmindsetit not fixed! 94% of pupilsin P3-7 reportedthattheycanlearnfromtheirmistakes in ourpupilsurvey. • Staff and parents have reportedthatthey have seen an improvement in learnersability to face challenges and manage theiremotions. WhatNext? • We will continue to engage all children in this programme. • We will continue to refer to our Learning Powers and Social Skills in assemblies, classwork and display.

Whole School Approach to Sustainability Whatdidwe do? • We developedourworkwith the RSPB – createdbeehighways, a Bug Hotel, bird feeders… • Wetook part in an energy audit – used a thermal camera, took part in a draughtexcluder workshop, usedwonderbags for cooking. • Wecontinued to workwithlearners to grow, harvest and cookourownfood. • We have workedwithour cluster schools and all classes on promoting the Global Goals. • We sharedourlearning about the VictorianswithMpeni and learnt about the history of the city of Blantyre. • We furtherdevelopedour nursery outdoorlearningenvironment. • All learnersworkedtowardsdeveloping an area of school life throughourcommunitygroupss. Whatwas the impact? • Miles Briggs MSP visited the school to find out about ourecowork. • We werenominated for a Nature of Scotland Award. • All learnershad the opportunity to engage in learning about ecoschools, UN Charter of the Rights of World and ourpartnerschoolMpeni. Our learnerslearnt about the positive impact theycan have on our world as an active citizen! WhatNext? • We willbeusingour Food for Thoughtgrant to purchaseadditionalequipment to extendourfood technologies experiences. • We willbecontinuing to embedourrelationshipwithMpenithrough curriculum links and fundraising for 2 additionalclassrooms.

Assessmentis For Learning / Pupil Voice Whatdidwe do? • We extendedour use of Online Learning Journals to Nursery – Primary 7. • We have continued to embedour use of Floor Books and Learning Walls as planning tools to extendpupilvoice. • We have focussed on the use of effective feedback strategieswithinclassroom monitoring and peershadowing to extend and embedour practice. • We extendedour use of Community Group Sharing Assemblies. Whatwas the impact? • Feedback and reporting to parents is more frequent and more responsive. • Most parents are regularlychecking and commenting on Online Learning Journals. • 90% of parents feltthat the Online Learning Journalskepttheminformed of learningthat has taken place. • Learnershad a greaterrole in developingprojectsbased on theirinterests • Learnerswere able to sharetheirlearningregularlywith the wholeschoolcommunity WhatNext? • We will continue to engage ALL parents in use of the Online Learning Journals. • We willreviewour Home Learning Policy to ensureitis flexible and responsive to pupilvoice and reflectsour effective feedback policy.

We also…… • Raised money for a range of differentcharitieslikeComic Relief. • Hosted the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Association. • Provided a verywide range of excursions and enrichmentopportunitiesacross the Curriculum – museums, Generation Science, Book Festival, visitingtheatre groups, outdoorlearning in and aroundourwiderCommunity. • Furtherdevelopedour communications with parents through the website and twitter. • Celebratedour 140th anniversarywith a fantasticVictorian Day. • Our choir has performed at Europe Day, the Stockbridge Christmas Fair, the National Storytelling Centre. • The Cluster Learning Council presentedtheirwork on the Global Goals and cooperativeworkingwithin the cluster to a group of local councillors.
