  1. Welcome To Back To School Night Nobel Middle School Ms. Halpern Honors Math/Science 6th Grade

  2. Classroom Standards • Being mentally and physically prepared to work • Rules and Consequences-See parent letter • Class work and Homework-Projects are marked down if they are late! I will not accept anything past one week of the due date. Homework can be handed in within a week for half credit. • Grades and Points-Cumulative per each semester, See parent letter • Graded on tests, classwork, homework, and AM. • After school tutoring available.

  3. Communication • Student Planners- student, parent, and teacher involvement (I sign it several days to show if your child did their homework or not.) • 6th period conference • Parent Conferences available before school. • Phone Messages and letters will be responded to within 24hrs • Email me at michieee@aol.com • Nobelms.com

  4. Classroom Technology • Nobelms.com • Calendar with assignments Accelerated Math (AM) reinforces concepts within program exercises, practices, tests ENGRADE.COM online grades and discipline MY.HRW.COM online math textbook

  5. The Four Components of the Gifted Program • Acceleration-The pace or speed of learning is altered in order to challenge learners. • Complexity-Broadening the learner's understanding of the areas by asking the learner to make connections, relationships, and associations between, within and across subjects and disciplines. • Depth-Challenging learners by enabling them to venture further, deeper, more elaborately into the area under study. • Novelty-Gaining a personal understanding of the area under study. • Curriculum focused on the California State Standards

  6. Academic Program Math • Go Math • Topics – Decimals, Fractions, Integers, Number relations, Solving equations, Ratios, Proportions, Percents, Geometry, and Statistics.

  7. Science • Holt Earth Science • Topics- Plate tectonics, Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Erosion, Weathering, The Atmosphere, Living things, and Biomes. • Technology • Material will be covered through power point presentations. • Projects • Some projects will be done inside their spiral notebook. • Larger projects will be given throughout the year to reinforce concepts.
