Geographic Area Core counties (darker shading): Extended area (lighter shading): • Not currently covered by any currently proposed RRC • Historically have participated in SW Idaho GIS • May find it beneficial to form an independent RRC in the future
Participants and Organizations • Government • Federal, state, regional, local • Academia • BSU • CCWI • NNU • CSI • ISU • U of I • Private Sector • Utilities • GIS contractors/consultants
Physical Location • None for now • A virtual presence with links to existing resources is much more important early • Technical contacts • Data • Map Services
Services and Resources • Grant administration • Representation on relevant statewide committees • Regional forum for discussion, collaboration, and training • Facilitation of regional ISDI programs and products by providing technical support for data/metadata creation and maintenance • Provide data discovery, use, and dissemination by leveraging the power of geospatial web services
Local Champions • Boise State University, • SWIG • Idaho State GIO • COMPASS • Sage Community Resources • A large & active group of local government agencies
Funding • Initially, we will leverage pre-existing resources • Local knowledge • Local web space • Funds are required to support a geospatial coordinator and technical staff • Some financial support must come from the state, but we would expect to supplement these funds with other proposals and grant opportunities
Summary The vision of a SW Idaho Regional GIS Resource Center dovetails perfectly with the concepts, mechanisms, and direction outlined in the Idaho SDI strategic and business plans. It builds on the foundation of existing resources and recognizes that coordination must improve and expand, but also be flexible based on the issues that face our diverse entities that have many needs for framework datasets, geospatial analysis tools, and expertise. We believe the proposed model that builds on existing resources is one that elected officials at all levels of government can understand and support.
