CAMP TURRELL • Camp Turrell is part of Dow Drukkur Scout Reservation • A 795-Acre Scout Camp located 90 minutes from Millburn – Short Hills… • The camp sports a 90-acre Lake, where a Scout can participate in a variety of waterfront activities from swimming to boating..
CAMP TURRELL ACTIVITIES • Camp Craft Area • Environmental Science / Nature Area • Rifle / Shotgun Range • Archery • Camping, Hiking, Outdoor Skills • Canoeing, Rowing, and Small Boat Sailing • Cooking • Mountain Biking • Indian Lore • Pioneering Skills
MEALS • All meals are cooked by the staff in a dining hall and sanctioned and inspected under New York State Law • The exception is on Thursday (dinner), when the Unit will do the cooking… which suffices for a variety of cooking requirements for different merit badges and ranks.
HEALTH / SAFETY • On-site health lodge which is staffed by an emergency medical technician. • All participants must have a physical and a form signed by a medical doctor prior to summer camp. • All Troop 17 Adults are youth-protection qualified • Turrell is BSA Nationally Accredited and surpasses all NYS Inspections

Summer Camp • Especially important for a new Scout • Opportunity to work on major requirements for 1st Class. • 1st chance to experience life away from Mom and Dad for a week. • Developmental experience of belonging to a cohesive group and working together in a safe team / Troop atmosphere to achieve Scouting Goals.
What Does Summer Camp Cost? • Summer Camp is $275.00 per Scout and must be paid by 25 April 2008 with complete packet. • No refunds unless for valid medical reasons • Camping Scholarships
Frequently Asked Questions • Are there hot showers? • Yes • How is the food? • I have always found camp food to have enough variety to satisfy all palettes, w/ a nutritional meal • My Scout has special dietary needs for medical / religious reasons. Can this be addressed? • Yes, see me prior to May 1st so your concerns will be accommodated
Frequently Asked Questions • My son is on medication or has special health concerns, can this be addressed? • Yes, through the health lodge medication and special needs will be administered. • My son is a poor swimmer or doesn’t even know how to swim, can he still go to camp? • Yes, summer camp is an excellent place to either improve your swimming abilities or even learn how to swim.
Frequently Asked Questions • Are there lifeguards at the waterfront? • Yes, all are approved Boy Scouts of America Lifeguards in addition to also being either American Red Cross or YMCA qualified. All summer camp participants are given a swim test upon arrival at camp.
Frequently Asked Questions • How does my Scout get to and from camp? • Transportation to and from camp is the Scout’s family’s responsibility; we will provide a list of Scouts attending and encourage carpooling.
Frequently Asked Questions • Do the Scouts need to wear a uniform? • Yes, Class A for evening meals and the two campfires • Class B the rest of the time • Closed shoes all the time (no sandals)

Other Activities • On Tuesday night between 7-9 pm – Fishing Derby • Interpretive Hike to explore local flora and fauna – 7 PM with arrangements • Camp Director Hike / Run every morning at 6:00 AM • Polar Bear Swim – every morning between 6:30-7:00 AM
Other Activities • Muzzleloading Rifle Shooting • Robin Hood Shooting – Monday Evening Archery Contest • Tie Die Monday – evening of tie die shirt making • Dynamic Duo Shoot – Scout Leader and a Scout compete on Thursday Nights against other teams • Daniel Boone Shoot – Tuesday Evening
Other Activities • World Conservation Award – older Scouts who have earned Environmental Science, Soil and Water Conservation, and Citizenship in the World • Open Aquatics – evening Troop Swims and Boating – Monday / Thursday Evenings • Snorkeling – Older Scouts • Mile Swim

Summer Camp 2008 • Every Scouting Family will be sent a 2008 Pamphlet – Summer Camp • In May we will schedule a camp meeting to discuss specifics, i.e. equipment list, directions, etc.
