  5. The Miracle • Time - John 2:1 “third day” • Occasion - John 2:2 “marriage feast” • Emergency - John 2:3-5 “ran out of wine” • Miracle - John 2:6-10

  7. The Miracle It was Genuine Jesus shortened the process Jesus has power over all things Heb. 1:3 “by the word of his power” Jesus will change our bodies at resurrection Phil. 3:21 “Who shall change our vile body” 1 Cor. 15:51 “all be changed”

  8. Conversation with His Mother John 2:3-5 Mary took her problem to Jesus “What have I to do with thee?” Submitted completely to God Jn. 5:30 “will of him that sent me.” Jn. 6:38 “not to do mine own will” “My hour is not yet come”

  9. Beginning of Miracles John 2:11 “This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.” Not his last John 20:30-31 “many other signs” John 21:25 “many other things which Jesus did”

  10. Lessons we can learn Jesus was no Ascetic Ascetic = abstain from any pleasures Well rounded man Weep and rejoice - Rom.12:15 Jesus honored Marriage 1 Tim.4:1-3 “Forbidding to marry” Heb. 13:4 “Marriage is honourable” Gen. 2:18 ordained of God

  11. What is the Wine ? • Fermented • Fruit on the vine - Isa. 65:8 “in the cluster” • Intoxicating Prov. 20:1 “Wine is a mocker” Prov. 23:31-32 “biteth like a serpent and stingeth like an adder”

  12. What is the Wine ? Jesus would not make the kind prohibited: Isa. 5:11,12 “Woe unto them…” Habakkuk 2:15 “Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!”

  13. What is the Wine ? Governor said “well drunk” Does not endorse drunkenness “well drunk” - “well fed” “methuo” “filled up” Ps.23:5 “thy cup runneth over”

  14. What is the Wine ? The bible nowhere justifies drinking intoxicants Quote from Guy N. Woods “It is significant that intoxicating liquors of whatever nature are positively forbidden in the sacred writings, and there is nothing here or elsewhere in the scriptures to justify their use as a beverage and stimulant.”
